TASHKENT. May 13 (Interfax) - The Uzbek authorities are negotiating
with the gunmen who seized the regional administration building in
Andizhan on Friday.
"Intensive negotiations with the guerillas, who occupied the
administration building, and the authorities have been continuing all
day," the Uzbek national news agency reported.
"The guerillas are shielding themselves with women and children,
whom they seized hostage, and are not agreeing to a compromise
settlement of the conflict," it said.
